Pumps
Correct tire pressure on your bicycle is important for a few reasons. Most importantly, to prevent flat tires, to keep the rolling resistance down and for optimum traction. Different types of bikes and different riding conditions/terrains will require a range of pressures. Keeping your tire pressure up especially for road riding, will stop flat tires from occuring due to bottoming out over larger bumps. We refer to that as pinch flats or "snake bites". We call it that because there will be 2 holes in the inner tube accross from each other just like a bite from a snake. For off road riding, a lower pressure is required in order to have good traction especially on corners or loose gravel. The pressure range is written on the sidewall of the tire and is based on the type and quality of the tire. Our staff can help explain in more detail the pressure you should be riding at for optimum performance. Inner tubes bleed air over time, so it is important to have a floor pump (ideally with a pressure gauge) at home to top up your tires every once in a while. If you want to be able to repair a flat tire on the road, mini pumps as well as repair kits are also available to carry with you.
